Understanding the New Medi-Cal Recovery Laws - September 6, 2016

Understanding the New Medi-Cal Recovery Laws

Sponsored by California Advocates for Nursing Home Reform

When Governor Brown signed the budget bills on Monday, June 27, 2016, he signed into law the most significant and progressive changes in Medi-Cal recovery since 1993, when Governor Pete Wilson signed his budget bill that created California's current Medi-Cal Recovery program.

The provisions of SB 33, the Medi-Cal Recovery reform bill authored by Senator Ed Hernandez, were incorporated into the budget bills and, effective January 1, 2017, these new laws will have a profound impact on Medi-Cal beneficiaries and the legal services and estate planning attorneys who advise them.

This one-hour webinar will review the new provisions: whose estate can be subject to recovery? what is and is not included in estate for the purposes of recovery? do spouses need to worry about recovery anymore? what is a homestead of modest value in California? These and other questions will be answered.

Healthy Data Management - September 8, 2016

Healthy Data Management: Essential Strategies for Governing PHI, PII, and Highly Sensitive Data during an Acquisition or Divestiture

Sponsored by Bloomberg BNA and Nuix

The merger and divestiture process for any type of company raises issues of data management and protection, particularly with the ease employees use technology to collect, store, and use data. Due to the nature of the confidential data that health care, life sciences, and pharmaceutical companies create and retain, these types of organizations face higher standards and specific issues related to the retention and protection of data when engaged in the merger or divestiture transaction process. Companies must balance the demand for access and sharing of data to meet business needs with legal and compliance obligations to protect highly sensitive data.

Join us for a 60-minute panel discussion covering the information governance life cycle for health care, life sciences, and pharmaceutical companies, from identification of sensitive data to storing and protecting that data during mergers and divestitures. You will gain insight on how to effectively manage and store your data as well as tips for developing an information governance program designed specifically to handle the type of sensitive data your health-focused company maintains.

Educational Objectives:

• Data management considerations for companies responsible for maintaining personally identifiable information (PII), protected health information (PHI), and confidential or sensitive data.
• Unique issues that arise when highly sensitive data is involved during the merger and divestiture transaction process.
• Strategies to develop effective policies and procedures for data life cycle management.

Roxanna Friedrich - Director, Advisory Services, Nuix (moderator)

Elliot Golding - Counsel, Crowell & Moring
